If you can’t win all of your games on the road, at least try and win half of them. That is the credo of most sports teams. This weekend (June 6-7), the Kamloops Heat lived up to that philosophy in the Pacific Coast Soccer League Women’s Reserve Division.
Following a loss to Coquitlam Metro on Saturday (June 6 2-1), The Heat went into Minaru Park in Richmond and beat the host Richmond FC for the second straight time this season. This time, the score was 2-1.
The Heat, which feature a number of current players and prospects of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack, got their first goal in the first half on a free kick from Shannen Meyer (TRU, Kamloops, BC). The winning marker came off the foot of Kelli Chamberlain on a breakaway. She was given a nice feed by Lauren White (McMaster University, Kamloops, BC).
“We played a strong game against a quick and persistent Richmond side, “said Heat Manager David Lloyd. “We had the better scoring chances but the Richmond keeper made several great saves to keep the score at 2-0 for the longest time.”
Richmond got their goal in the final 15 minutes. For the second straight match Kailee Mann (Clarmont Secondary, Victoria, BC) was the keeper for the Heat.
Kamloops now moves to 5 and 1. They are back home to take on Fraser Valley Action (June 13 th 5 pm) and Coquitlam (June 14, 2 pm) at Hillside Staduim.
