WOLFPACK MENS SOCCER END PRESEASON WITH DRAW August 31, 2009

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s soccer team ended their four matches in four days pre-season with a tie. Playing the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades, a CIS Squad, The WolfPack tied 1-1.
“We led for most of the match,” said TRU co-head coach Sean Wallace. “It was a good effort considering we had three veterans out with injuries.”
The WolfPack got on the board in the 15 minute mark. First year forward Andrew Owusu (Kitimat, BC) knocked in a header. The Cascades didn’t tie the score until the 88 th minute when they put the ball past WolfPack keeper Ethan May (2nd year, Kamloops, BC) on a play which was going against the grain.
“We (co-head coach John Antulov) and myself have some big decisions to make,” stated Wallace. “We have to sit down and do some talking to players who were on the bubble. We got a chance to see them all play in different positions.”
The WolfPack open up their 2009 BC College Athletic Association regular season Labor day weekend with games Sat (Sept 5) against the Langara College Falcons . On Sunday (Sept 6) defending provincial and national champion Capilano University Blues. invade Hillside Stadium.
GOAL KICKS: The WolfPack rested Seb Gardner (3rd year, midfielder, Vernon, BC) and Casey Cullen (4 th year, midfielder, Kamloops, BC) with lower body injuries. Tim Unaebu (4 th year, forward, Port Coquitlam, BC) was sat because of an upper body injury.
TRU Men will wear “EW” on their uniforms this season to honor their late manager Errol Wild. A moment of silence will be observed before their first match of the season on Saturday.
WolfPack Mens co-coaches Sean Wallace and John Antulov will join Women’s coach Tom McManus promoting the teams and the season openers Friday (Sept 4) at noon on the CFJC TV Midday program

Anyone trying out for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s soccer team this year certainly can’t complain that they didn’t get a good look from the coaching staff. Co head coaches John Antulov and Sean Wallace have given all of the 24 players still on their roster, lots of playing time.
It happened again today (Aug 29), as the WolfPack downed Vancouver Croatia of the Vancouver Premier League 1-0.
“We have pretty well made up our minds on most of our roster spots,” said Wallace. “But with the injuries to a couple of guys, we got a chance to use the last two or three people we are considering in a lot of situations.
The match was scoreless after the first 45 minutes. 5 th year Kyle Bowman (Kamloops, BC) moved from the back end to forward and scored the lone marker. Bowman took a pass from fellow 5 th year Kyle Halvorson (forward, Armstrong, BC). The goal was the result of a build up of pressure which was initiated by 2nd year midfielder Peter Loncar (Kamloops, BC). Ethan May (2nd year, keeper, Kamloops, BC) got the day off in favour of former WolfPack and two time BC College Athletic Association first team allstar Alan Connor. Connor (Salmon Arm, BC) is likely to play for Croatia this season while attending Simon Fraser University.
The WolfPack now have an exhibition record of 1-1-1 and close things out Sunday (Aug 30) against CIS University of Fraser Valley Cascades . The match will be played at 11 am PDT in Abbotsford, BC.
THROW INS: Among those resting because of injury today included 2nd year midfielder Seb Gardner (Vernon, BC) with an ankle injury, Casey Cullen (4th year, midfielder, Kamloops, BC) with a Charlie horse and Tim Uneaegbu (4 th year, forward, Port Coquitlam, BC) with a possible head injury.
The WolfPack open their 2009 BC College Athletic Association regular season at home on Saturday September 5 th at 2 pm. The opponents will be the defending provincial and national champion Capilano College Blues.
WOLFPACK MENS VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS WIN BRONZE AT CANADA SUMMER GAMES August 29, 2009

-Two members of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s volleyball team have won bronze medals at the Canada Summer Games in Prince Edward Island. Gord Perrin (outside hitter, 3rd year, Creston, BC) and Kyle Donen (libero, 4th year, White Rock, BC) were part of Team BC which won the bronze this morning at the Summer Games.
BC downed Manitoba 3-0 in the match. The scores were 25-23,25-20,25-17. Perrin had 13 kills in 27 attempts. That was the second most on the BC roster. He also added two service aces, had one service error, 4 block assists and nine digs. Donen had 12 digs.
Alberta, which was co coached by former UCC Sun Demon’s boss Simon Fedun won the Gold. They downed Ontario in the final 3-0. The scores were 26-24,25-18,29-27
WOLFPACK COME BACK TO TIE COUGARS IN FRIENDLY August 29, 2009

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s soccer team score two second half goals to erase a 3-1 deficit and tie the Mount Royal Cougars of Calgary 3-3. It was an exhibition match played at Trinity Western in Langley on Friday (Aug 28).
“We had a strong last 15 minutes to come back,” said WolfPack co head coach Sean Wallace, who rested four starters including Peter Loncar (midfielder, 2nd year, Kamloops, BC), Casey Cullen (4 th year, midfielder, Kamloops, BC) and Matt Loader (2nd year, Kamloops, BC).
“We wanted to try a few of our new guys,” Wallace explained. “Seb (Gardner, 3rd year,midfielder, Vernon, BC) saw limited playing time. But we fielded a stronger side in the second half after falling behind 1-0.”
First year Mason Hampel (Kamloops, BC) scored early in the second to tie the match. But, after the Cougars scored twice more, Jacob Kaay (first year, Kamloops, BC) and Tim Unaebu (4 th year, forward, Port Coquitlam, BC) found the back of the Mount Royal net.
“At this point of the year, playing two matches in two nights really took a toll on our crew,” Wallace stated.
TRU will play their third of four ‘friendlies” Saturday (Aug 29) afternoon at 2 pm against Vancouver Croatia. That match is being played in Abbotsford. The ‘Pack conclude their pre season on Sunday (Aug 30) when they visit the CIS University of Fraser Valley Cascades.
PERRIN AND DONEN TO PLAY FOR BRONZE AT CANADA SUMMER GAMES August 28, 2009

If Gord Perrin and Kyle Donen win a medal at the 2009 Canada Summer Games, it’ll be a bronze. The two men’s volleyball players from Thompson Rivers University are members of Team BC. BC lost in their semi final match today (Aug 28) to Alberta 3-0. The scores were 25-21,25-19,25-19.
It was the second straight time Alberta had beaten BC in the competition. Perrin (outside hitter, 3rd year, Creston, BC) had six kills on 13 attempts. He also had 10 blocks, 1 service ace and 1 service error. Donen (libero, 4 th year, White Rock, BC) had one kill and 12 digs.
BC will now take on Manitoba for third and fourth place at 9:30 am ADT on Saturday (Aug 29). Manitoba lost in three straight sets to Ontario in their semi final. The scores were 16-25,23-25,22-25.
