The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s soccer team score two second half goals to erase a 3-1 deficit and tie the Mount Royal Cougars of Calgary 3-3.  It was an exhibition match played at Trinity Western in Langley on Friday (Aug 28).

“We had a strong last 15 minutes to come back,” said WolfPack co head coach Sean Wallace, who rested four starters including Peter Loncar (midfielder, 2nd year, Kamloops, BC),  Casey Cullen (4 th year, midfielder, Kamloops, BC) and Matt Loader (2nd year, Kamloops, BC).

“We wanted to try a few of our new guys,” Wallace explained. “Seb (Gardner, 3rd year, midfielder, Vernon, BC) saw limited playing time. But we fielded a stronger side in the second half after falling behind 1-0.”

First year Mason Hampel (Kamloops, BC) scored early in the second to tie the match. But, after the Cougars scored twice more,  Jacob Kaay (first year, Kamloops, BC) and Tim Unaebu (4 th year, forward, Port Coquitlam, BC) found the back of the Mount Royal net.

“At this point of the year, playing two matches in two nights really took a toll on our crew,” Wallace stated.

TRU will play their third of four ‘friendlies” Saturday (Aug 29) afternoon at 2 pm against Vancouver Croatia. That match is being played in Abbotsford.  The ‘Pack conclude their pre season on Sunday (Aug 30) when they visit the CIS University of Fraser Valley Cascades.
