GOLF GEARS UP FOR FINAL EVENT (BCCAA) OF SEASON October 22, 2009

The curtain comes down on the 2009 season for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s golf team this weekend. The WolfPack will take their entire eight man team to the BC College Athletic Association tournament in Kelowna (Oct 24 and 25).
“We are still trying to improve from the first four events including the Nationals,” says head coach Bill Bilton Junior. The WolfPack finished ninth at last weekend’s Canadian College Athletic Association championships in Ontario.
The WolfPack enter this weekend’s tournament (being held at The Bear and the Quail courses) with an outside shot of finishing third. “We’ll need some help though,” says Bilton.
The coach says the teams psyche has been good all year and won’t sway this tournament despite the fact it’s the final event of the year. “We all feel like the season is over in terms of playing more golf-usually the Nationals is the end,” says Bilton. “That being said, we have to get up for this event and stay focused.”
Bilton looks at the two courses being played this weekend like this: “The Bear is more open than Quail but both have similar greens and fairways. A little hilly but not too bad.”
The season maybe coming to a close for the BCCAA golf season but it’ll be a busy year for Bilton and his program. Not only will he be recruiting hard for 2010, but he also has to plan to host the CCAA Nationals. “The host banner is already hanging in the Dunes clubhouse,” he says.
