Bremerton, Wash—The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack baseball team kicked off a four game exhibition series in the Pacific Northwest with a split. The WolfPack were in Bremerton Washington where they opened up with a 3-0 win over Olympic Community College Rangers.. Later, they dropped a 5-3 decision to Green River Community College Gators. Both schools play in the Northwest Athletic Association Community College League.
In the opener, TRU scored two runs in the fifth inning and added one more in the eighth as they pounded out ten hits.
The ‘Pack swung the bats well to back up Moore’s strong pitching performance. Assistant coach Duaine Bowles commented “ Danny Moore is a guy that is showing us that we can depend on him every weekend.”
Brian Ivan (2nd year, third base/catcher Toronto, Ont) was 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles. “He has been one of the constants in the middle of our order,” added Bowles.
Catcher David Hole (2nd year, Vancouver, BC) was 2 fof 3 with a pair of singles and an RBI. Veteran DH Yoshi Nakamura (4th year, Yokohama, Japan) was 2 for 4 with two singles and an RBI.
In the second game, Green River roughed up WolfPack starter Jordan Broatch (4th year, rhp, White Rock, BC). He surrendered four runs in the first inning and one more in the second as Green River took a 5-1 lead. TRU added single runs in the third and seventh innings.
“ We didn’t execute the whole game,” stated Bowles. “ A couple of pitches in the first inning and offensively the whole game were our downfall.”
Ironically, TRU out hit Green River 13-8 in the ball game.
Brian Ivan and Adam Halland (3rd year, shortstop/2nd base Kamloops, BC) were hot at the plate. Both went 3 for 4 with three singles. Ivan had a pair of RBI.
TRU is now 5 and 7 on the season and plays the same two schools again Sunday (March 7) in Auburn, Washington.
